Percevra is a decision-support tool. It uses computational models to help you explore how colors and palette relationships may change under different viewing conditions. It is not an exact paint, fabric, finish, ink, or product-matching service, and digital results may differ from physical outcomes.

Use Percevra to identify lighting risk and narrow your choices before ordering samples. Always verify consequential decisions with physical samples under the conditions in which they will be used.

What Percevra simulates

Depending on the feature, Percevra may use:

  • Standardized color values and color-space conversions
  • Computational approximations of different illuminants
  • Chromatic-adaptation and perceptual color transformations
  • Estimated changes in lightness, chroma, hue, contrast, and palette relationships
  • Simplified material or surface characteristics for visual comparison

These models simplify complex physical and perceptual effects. A simulation is not a measurement of your specific light source, material, room, display, printer, or manufacturing process.

Why real-world color can differ

Perceived color is affected by factors that a general-purpose digital preview cannot fully reproduce, including:

  • Display conditions: screen technology, calibration, brightness, color profile, browser, and operating system.
  • Light: spectral power distribution, intensity, direction, time of day, reflections, and surrounding illumination.
  • Material: pigment or dye formulation, substrate, texture, gloss, opacity, translucency, fluorescence, aging, and manufacturing variation.
  • Environment: adjacent colors, scale, geometry, shadows, distance, and viewing angle.
  • Human perception: visual adaptation, individual color vision, and differences between observers.

For these reasons, the same digital color value can appear different across devices, materials, spaces, and people.

How to interpret stability and lighting results

Percevra's stability scores, labels, rings, charts, and lighting comparisons are relative computational indicators. They are designed to help compare colors or palettes within Percevra's model.

A stability score is not:

  • A probability that a color will remain unchanged.
  • A certification of color accuracy or product performance.
  • A guarantee of metameric consistency.
  • A substitute for spectral measurement, laboratory testing, or professional specification.

The illuminants we simulate, the color space the math runs in, and the exact formula and thresholds behind a stability score are published on the Method page.

Two colors that appear similar under one light may separate under another. Conversely, a simulated shift may be less noticeable—or appear different—when reproduced on an actual material.

Vendor and product colors

References to paints, pigments, materials, products, or vendor color names—if available—are for exploration or comparison unless expressly stated otherwise.

Percevra does not claim that an on-screen preview exactly matches a vendor's physical product. Product formulations, finishes, batches, substrates, application methods, and lighting conditions can all affect the final appearance. Vendor names and trademarks belong to their respective owners; their appearance in the Service does not imply endorsement or affiliation.

Before any critical use

For architecture, interiors, manufacturing, printing, product design, construction, or other consequential applications:

  • Obtain current physical samples from the intended vendor or manufacturer.
  • Test the actual material, finish, substrate, and application method.
  • Review samples under the expected daylight and artificial-lighting conditions.
  • Evaluate colors at an appropriate scale and beside adjacent materials.
  • Use calibrated instruments, controlled workflows, or qualified professionals where the project requires them.
  • Approve production samples, drawdowns, strike-offs, proofs, or mockups before final manufacture or installation.

Final production and specification decisions should be based on physical evidence and project-specific testing—not on a screen preview alone.

Accessibility simulations

Color-vision and contrast previews are screening aids. They can help identify potential issues, but they do not represent every person's visual experience and do not by themselves certify compliance with an accessibility standard. Validate applicable contrast requirements and test important interfaces with representative users and appropriate tools.
